Retort Pouch
TedPack’s Custom Retort Pouch are built for shelf-stable food products that must go through post-fill high-temperature processing. With retort-grade laminated materials, strong seal integrity, and oxygen, moisture, and light barrier protection, our pouches help reduce leakage, delamination, and shelf-life risks after sterilization.
Whether you pack ready meals, sauces, soups, baby food, or pet wet food, TedPack helps match the right pouch structure to your product formula, retort conditions, and brand presentation needs.
Why Choose TedPack's Retort Pouch
TedPack helps food brands customize pouch structures based on product formula, retort conditions, shelf-life goals, and packaging needs.
Retort-Grade Material Matching:We match laminated structures to your product type, retort temperature, processing time, and barrier requirements.
Strong Seal Integrity:Reliable heat-seal layers help reduce leakage, burst seals, and pouch failure during retort processing.
High-Barrier Protection:Aluminum foil and transparent high-barrier options help protect flavor, aroma, color, and shelf life.
Built for Different Food Applications:Customized pouch solutions for ready meals, sauces, baby food, pet wet food, and more.
Process-Aware Packaging Support:We consider filling temperature, viscosity, pouch size, and retort conditions to help reduce production risks.

Retort Pouch Performance
- Multi-layer lamination including OPA and AL foil to achieve near-zero OTR and WVTR
- Engineered to maintain structural integrity during the overpressure retort process at 121°C–135°C
- High-tensile Nylon (PA) layers prevent micro-leaks caused by sharp food contents
- RCPP inner layers ensure a leak-proof seal that survives the expansion and contraction of the retorting cycle
Why Food Brands Choose Retort Pouch
For Brands
- Helps protect flavor, aroma, color, and shelf-life performance
- Supports shelf-stable packaging for ready meals, sauces, soups, baby food, and pet wet food
- Reduces packaging weight compared with cans and glass jars
- Improves retail presentation with high-quality custom printing
For Production
- Structures can be matched to product formula and retort conditions
- Flexible formats help save storage and transportation space
- Thinner pouch profiles can support more efficient heat transfe

The Most Common Challenge with Retort Packaging
Many food processors encounter catastrophic failures during high-pressure sterilization, which severely impact product safety and brand reputation. We recommend considering the following critical technical questions:
①After your product has been exposed to high temperatures of 121°C or 135°C, can it maintain its adhesive strength without delamination?
②Do your products frequently have pinholes that affect their shelf life?
③Does your packaging experience extreme expansion during heating due to insufficient sealing?
TedPack Custom Retort Packaging Solution
At TedPack, we believe retort pouch is an engineering feat. We don’t just provide bags; we provide a holistic solution to ensure your food stays fresh and safe from the autoclave to the consumer’s plate.
① Employs a specialized, high-grade polyurethane adhesive featuring exceptional hydrolysis resistance. This ensures that the packaging bag does not delaminate, even during prolonged, high-pressure sterilization cycles.
②By employing a composite structure that combines aluminum foil with a high-tensile-strength nylon (PA) layer, the packaging’s puncture resistance during transportation and processing has been significantly enhanced.
③The thickness of the inner RCPP layer has been optimized, and a precision heat-sealing technique has been employed. This endows the packaging structure with the necessary elasticity, enabling it to absorb the thermal expansion effects of the contents without compromising the integrity of the seal.

Here Are the Answers to Your Queries!
Have questions about our high-temperature retort pouch? Explore the answers below to learn about materials, pouch structures, filling and sterilization, and shelf-stable food applications. For further assistance, our team is ready to help.
A retort pouch is a multi-layer flexible packaging designed to withstand thermal processing (121 ℃ to 135 ℃) in a pressurized retort machine.
The Advantage: Unlike heavy cans, these pouches are lightweight, reducing logistics and packaging costs significantly.
Food Quality: Because the pouch is thinner than a can, heat reaches the "cold point" of the food faster, preventing overcooking and preserving better texture and nutrients.
This is where 90% of packaging failures occur. For retort applications, you must use specialized high-grade polyurethane adhesives with exceptional hydrolysis resistance.
The Challenge: During the 121 ℃ sterilization cycle, standard adhesives can break down, leading to delamination (the layers peeling apart).
Our Solution: At TedPack, we match the adhesive type (solvent-based or high-performance solventless) to your specific sterilization duration and temperature to ensure 100% bond integrity.
Yes, but with strict parameters. Retort pouches are compatible with horizontal or vertical autoclaves (water spray, water immersion, or steam-air systems).
Crucial Note: The most critical factor is Counter-Pressure Control. Because the pouch expands during heating, the machine must provide external pressure to prevent the pouch from bursting. We recommend testing samples in your specific equipment before mass production.
It depends on the material structure:
Foil Structures: If the pouch contains Aluminum Foil (for 24-month shelf life), it is NOT microwave-safe. Consumers should heat it in boiling water.
Clear High-Barrier: If we use SiOx or AlOx coated films, the pouch is 100% microwave-safe.
Safety Tip: Always advise consumers to tear the pouch slightly or vent it before microwaving to release pressure.
Managing the headspace is a delicate balance in retort packaging.
The Risk: If there is too much residual air inside the pouch, the air will expand significantly more than the food during heating. This creates immense internal pressure that can lead to pouch bursting or weakened seals.
The Impact: Conversely, too little headspace can cause product to splash into the seal area during high-speed filling.
Our Solution: We recommend using vacuum sealing or steam flushing during the filling process to minimize residual oxygen, which also helps in preventing oxidation and extending shelf life.
